Community guidelines

Manja is a kinder corner of the internet for pet owners. A place to share the small, ordinary moments — the nap on the laundry pile, the first walk after the rain, the vet visit that went better than expected. We keep this corner kind on purpose; these are the house rules that make that possible.

What we love to see

Manja is built for pet life in Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia — and the kind of posts that make this feed feel like home.

Pet portraits. Your cat in the window. Your dog after a bath. Your rabbit in mid-yawn.
Vet visits. First check-ups, vaccinations, post-op rest days. The good kind of brave.
Training wins. The recall that finally clicked. The litter box your kitten figured out at 3am.
Rescue and adoption stories. Foster diaries, first weeks at home, before-and-afters.
Neighbourhood tips. Best HDB cat-proofing trick, which Klang park your dog loves, the Jakarta groomer who's gentle with anxious cats.
Regional pet life. Tropical-climate care, monsoon-season notes, festival-season pet safety.

What's not okay

These get removed. Repeat or severe violations get accounts suspended or blocked.

Animal cruelty, abuse, neglect, or fight content. Including content that "shows what not to do" in a way that could be reused as cruelty.
Gore or graphic injury beyond what's needed to ask a genuine medical question (and even then — please content-warn).
Sexually explicit material. Manja is not the place.
Hate speech and harassment. Slurs, targeted insults, pile-ons, coordinated nastiness.
Doxxing. Sharing someone's home address, phone number, IC, workplace, school, or other private details without consent.
Spam and scams. Repetitive promotional posts, fake-vet pitches, fake rescue donation drives, link-farm comments, MLM recruiting.
Off-topic sales. Manja isn't a marketplace. No selling pets, no breeder ads, no rehoming-for-money posts. (Genuine free rehoming with proper rescue context — talk to the mods.)

Medical content

Manja is editorial and community — not live veterinary advice. If you're worried about your pet right now, please talk to your vet.

Posts that ask medical questions are absolutely fine — that's what a community is for.
When you reply with advice, please default to "talk to your vet" instead of diagnosing through a screen. Share what worked for your own pet by all means; just don't dress up a guess as a diagnosis.
Anything that reads as "skip the vet, do this instead" gets removed.
Articles published by Manja under the medical tier are vet-reviewed and named on the page.

Photos of other people's pets

If the owner is reasonably identifiable — their face, their hand, their stroller, their HDB lift, their car plate — please get permission before posting. The same goes for other people's children. We're a small region; the rule of thumb is "would the owner be surprised to see this here?"

Found-pet and lost-pet posts are an exception — those are the whole point.

Underage members

Minimum age is 13 across Singapore, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Under-18s posting without a guardian's consent will be removed when we become aware. If you're a guardian and you'd like a teen account taken down, email [email protected] and we'll act within one working day.

Reporting, and what happens next

Every post and comment has a small flag icon — that opens a report form. You don't need to write an essay; a reason and a sentence is enough.

What happens after you report:

Auto-mod first. Image uploads run through Cloudflare's NSFW classifier on the way in; flagged uploads never reach the feed.
Human queue. Reported content goes to a moderator (currently Ella plus one trained mod). We aim to look at every report within 48 hours; faster for animal-welfare flags.
Warn → hide → block. First-time small stuff usually gets a warning to the poster. Repeated or moderate violations get the content hidden. Severe or repeat-severe violations get the account suspended.
You'll know if it was your report. We don't share who reported what, but the original reporter gets a quiet "thanks — we acted on this" notification when the case closes.

We don't publicly call people out. We don't run shame threads. We act, then we move on.

Account suspension and deletion

You can self-pause your account from /account/settings any time. Your posts stay up but new sign-ins and notifications stop.
You can self-delete from the same place. Your posts, comments, pet profiles, and photos are removed within 30 days. (See /privacy for what we retain and why.)
We suspend accounts for serious or repeated guideline violations. We give a warning first, except for severe cases (animal cruelty, doxxing, coordinated harassment, scams), where we act immediately.
A suspended account can email [email protected] to appeal once; we read every appeal.

Locale and language

Manja runs in four languages: English, 中文, Bahasa Melayu, Bahasa Indonesia. When a translation is unclear or contradicts itself, the English version is the canonical one. We're working towards every page being human-reviewed in every language, but until that's done, please assume the English version is the source of truth.

A note from Ella

Manja exists because the internet around pet care is louder, harder, and more commercial than it needs to be. I wanted a place that felt like the inside of a good clinic — warm, careful, honest, and on your side. These guidelines are how we hold that.
